Cycling from Amsterdam to Frankfurt

This blog was created to document our first cycling tour from Amsterdam to Franfurt following the Rhine.  We hope you enjoy reading it as much as we enjoyed doing it. The first day of our journey starts here Day 1 - Arrival.

A couple of things we learned along the way  ....

The Netherlands is so bike friendly. We were sorry to leave the smooth bike paths, considerate drivers and excellent signage. We will return to that lovely country for some more cycling.

The Rhine route has been set up to ride from South to North, hence we did things the opposite way. This did give us a few complications with regard to information on route (ie we found out about sites after we had passed them).

What we will do before we head out on another bike tour....

  • Research where we are going and download maps on both Garmins.
  • Purchase paper maps in english before we leave home.
  • Purchase english information booklets on the major tourist attractions and sites before we leave home.
  • Do much more research on the routes and the signs we need to be following.
  • Have good wet weather protection for our persons and gear.
  • Pack quick drying gear and layers.
  • Purchase some german panniers.
