Oberwesel to Mainz

Todays ride : 60.5
Total ride: 651.6

Today was about riding to enjoy the scenery and take photos of the last castles. We also spent some time in Bingen & Rudesheim & visited the Siegfrieds Mechanical Musikkabinett.

Pfalzgrafenstein Castle (1326)(or toll house castle) with Gutenfels Castle on the hillside behind. Situated in the town of Kaub.

We came across a special sculpture event in Bingen with a waterfront promenade of sculptures.

Haus mit Kaugummiautoma in Bingen. For the artwork numerous semi-inflated gym balls were crocheted with wool and hung up. According to the idea the machine exploded and expeled chewing gum out. In the upper floor is still living an old woman who looks out the window from time to time and is pleased with the colorful facade. After Triennial the house will be demolished and give way to new house buildings. The 'Sculpture Triennial 2014' will take place in Bingen on the Rhein from 26th April to 5th October. Under the motto 'human and machine' 21 artists show large-scale sculptures and transform the Rhine landscape in an impressive art trail.

Rudesheim Castle
Niederwalddenkmal commemorating the founding of the German Empire after the Franco Prussian War. 1871.
How far to Berlin? We won't be cycling there today.

Cute couple seats to sit and enjoy a beverage while looking at the Niederwalddenkmal and the passing barges.

I loved these seats in the park - rest up and put your feet up!

World Cup fever - every pub and restaurant had their own screens, this one was set up over the water.

The historic crane in Bingen.
