We were up early and out of the hotel about 7:00am. The plan was that we would ride for a few hours and stop for breakfast. Google took us on some pretty interesting tracks on our way north. We wanted to avoid the very busy road we had ridden along before which was the preferred route by Google, so it seemed the alternate we took was a little challenging in some parts. Google’s most direct route seemed ok on the screen, however in reality it was a goat track for the first 20kms, but very pretty along some rivers and canals. There were steep stairs and tracks to contend with. Our plan was to get on the road early and pick up breakfast on the way, however, the Netherlands is basically closed on Monday mornings because so many places are open on the weekend. Our first stop for food was at 10am, (a bakery that sold apple danish) after 40kms, in Belgium. Lucky I had packed some fruit. We had steep inclines, stairs and paths that were not sealed or any semblance of having been used this century, but the scenery was just beautiful as we rode alongside rivers and canals again.
We continued on our journey and rode past some interesting sights and again, beautiful scenery.
After all of the monstrous churches we saw on our way, this day we passed what must be close to the smallest church in the Netherlands. See photo below right.
We finally made it into Eindhoven, found and checked into our hotel, I quickly showered and went out to meet another friend from HK, Angela while stayed back in the room to do the washing. Angela and I caught up for about 2 hours, then back to the hotel and to find food. We settled on an Indonesian feast not far from the hotel, we then had a wonder through the main township.
Eindhoven was severely bombed in WWII, so it it has a mix of new and old buildings.
