Day 1 - Busan

Sunday 5 June 2016

1 stamp day

Getting out of Hong Kong was not too painless, however the Dragonair staff were a bit concerned about our packing of the bikes and continued to ask us questions about it. We got it all through and they turned up in Korea.

We touched down after a 2 hour 45 minute flight from HK feeling very tired. After waiting for ages to get our bags we retrieved our bikes which had made the trip unscathed after all the worry from the check in staff.

We found a place to put the bikes together. I secured a mobile wifi device from SK Telecom for a reasonable price. It means we take our wifi with us everywhere for 3 devices unlimited data- no swapping sim cards or paying data fees or relying on hotels to have wifi. And, seeing that we are needing a bunch of apps to find our way - Naver, Google maps & Google translate all need internet access.

We did a quick change into bike gear then rode out of the airport to find somewhere to stay.

The Max Hotel had been recommended to us for being close to the bike path & other facilities. It was way better than expected & I managed to pay a little more to check in at 9am.

We threw our stuff into the room & went seeking food which we found in the form of Vietnamese pho not far from the hotel. We then headed back to the room for a 4 hour nap as we were both very exhausted.

In the afternoon we headed south on our bikes to the start of the 4 rivers bike path to the Nakdonggang Estuary Bank (낙동강 하구 둑) where we picked up our passports and took some photographs.

We then tried to explore a bit of the Busan bike paths more south, but some construction hindered our progress and after spending much time going not far we called it quits & headed back for an early night. 25kms all up today.

Dinner was pizza pieces found at eMart with fresh fruit bought from a roadside vendor. A very relaxing day with some riding of just shy of 30kms all up to ease us into the cycling culture here.

In a street of love hotels, ours is  the flashiest!
