Todays ride : 70.48km
Total holiday ride : 88.28
Garmin ride details

After cheese loading at breakfast we set out about 9:30am, with the idea of heading to Tiel, about 75 Km's down the road. It was beautiful day starting at 20 deg.

The ride took us along LF7 bike route which meandered along canals & showcased some of the most amazing historic buildings. Every village & town we rode through was beautiful. Flowers everywhere & the water with the bridges just finished it off.

A mansion on the way out of Amsterdam.

We stopped for snack & a rest at about 30kms on the grounds of a castle with a moat. Just beautiful.

Loenersloot Castle a private castle where we enjoyed a snack, just sitting.

The caretaker's home at Fort Winkjil which is no longer a fort, but a camping ground owned by the Netherlands Defence dept. This summer was its last season of being open.

Dutch Sheep and very green grass.

Lunch was at a restaurant we were about to ride past & it was delicious. Just what was needed for the next 30kms.

Hoop Windmill Loenen Aan de VechtThe Hoop Mill is located at the end of the dorpstraat. The De Hoop Mill was built in 1902, to replace an older wooden corn mill that had been destroyed in a fire. The De Hoop Mill was built using parts salvaged from a decommissioned mill in the Zaanstreek area. The mill is currently used to produce feed for animals. Extensive restoration work was carried out on the hood and the sails in 2006. The mill is open to the public on Saturday afternoons.

Draw bridge at Maarsenbroek with a tug pushing a barge down the canal.

Long straight river, we road over & along for a bit - The Amsterdam - Rhine Canal.

We rode into Utrecht - a very big city, with amazing historic architecture. We lost our bearing there a bit but then we got back on track. Hung around the Dom for a bit then headed off to anywhere. But not Tiel. We decided we needed a more direct route to the Rhine.

The Dom Tower, 500 steps to get up to the top. Utrecht.
We found ourselves in a little town called Bunnik where we decided to call it a day. After asking in the town a kind lady led us to the Bunnik Stayokey, a local chain of hostel accommodation. This one was in a historic castle no less. We did some washing of ourselves and clothes & went to eat. Holland were playing Chile at this time, people were a little distracted.ended up at a pancake restaurant which was just what was needed to fill our cavernous legs. After dinner we went for a short walk to look at the bunker pad just down the road. Then crashed into bed & had no problems falling asleep.

The bunker pad in Bunnik - part of the waterline defence. This area has many historic forts, castles, war relics and Roman stuff.

Our castle for the evening, with bikes Stayokay Hostel, The building is called 'De Ridderhofstad' and included stables which are now a bar. Dates back to 1830.

Dinner of pancakes at a pancake restaurant.

  2. Yep, it was pretty basic, and very quiet. There were about 50 teenagers staying there on a school trip and we didn't even know until breakfast when we saw them. I suppose it helps with 18 inch thick walls.
