What we have learned so far...

GThis post is about bits we have found out in the last 2 days of riding here.....

There are national bikes routes everywhere & you just follow the signs which take you to the interesting sights of towns & through amazing scenery.

These signs have been in a few places - they mean sanctuary - for people & animals. No loud noise is permitted.

These maps are located everywhere, even in quite remote places.

These honey filled waffles are the original honey stingers ... At 200 calories per biscuit/waffle, they are cyclists survival food and very tasty.

Everything is signposted with information, but only in Dutch, which we are slowly learning the language but it won't be fast enough. The Dutch speak English fluently, just that nothing in the tourist route is in English.

The place is so flat that when we come to a slight rise, it is a shock to the system.

Cheese is excellent food for riding on.....  So is the rye bread ... With mustard...

And finally, there are Panniers & there are German panniers. Ours are Chinese & not very good.

Overall, we have come ill prepared re maps etc, and have brought too much stuff, but I have not brought enough warm clothes. Summer is definitely different in Europe than HK. But we are having fun for our first trip & are enjoying the experience.

  1. A steep learning curve on your first bike trip, but such great fun.
